Faith in Action - Serving Others in a Community for Jesus

The Bible offers several powerful examples of people stepping out in faith. Abraham left his home without a plan to travel to a country he didn’t know.

The RWJF-supported evaluation also encouraged the foundation to consider supporting a second phase of Faith in Action. It would allow local congregations to organize interfaith coalitions with the aim of addressing local needs.
Helping Others

Helping others is one of the most important parts of the Christian life. The Bible teaches us that when we help someone in need, God notices and rewards our good deeds. It is also a way to show our love for Jesus by following His example. Whether we are helping neighbors in need in our own neighborhood or traveling the world to share His message, our hearts should be filled with compassion and love for others.

If we want to grow in our relationship with God, then we need a strong community of believers. A community is a place where we can connect with other believers on a soul level and inspire each other to live more like Christ. It’s also a place where we can support each other in the difficult times of our lives. community for jesus

The community of faith is a powerful force that can change the world, but it’s only as strong as the people in it. In order to have a healthy, vibrant community, we need to invest in it. This means spending time together, encouraging each other to be more like Jesus and sharing the gospel with those around us.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus calls his followers to “be a light to the world.” This means spreading the word about the good news of Christ. The best way to do this is through a local church, and there are many ways you can get involved. You can serve as a leader, teach Sunday school or participate in prayer groups. You can also help with the community service projects your church is involved in.

As you spend time with other Christians, remember that your community is your family. When you have a family, it’s easier to reach out to others and be a friend to everyone. The more you help others, the better you will feel about yourself and your spiritual journey.
Building Stronger Families

Grassroots faith-based community organizing is a powerful tool for people to use to bring about change. It allows communities to address issues that they care about—like providing better schools for their children, access to health services, affordable housing and jobs that provide good wages. It also empowers communities to tackle problems like violence, incarceration and racial discrimination.

Families are the cornerstone of society, and they play an important role in the lives of all people. In order to have healthy families, everyone needs to take responsibility for making it work. This involves fostering strong communication, establishing healthy boundaries and supporting one another through difficult times. It also means teaching children how to be kind and respectful, and balancing individual needs with the family’s goals and values.

While some people believe that the only way to serve others is by being a missionary or pastor, Jesus taught that serving begins at home. He washed the feet of his disciples and spent time with people nobody else would talk to. He showed us that the best way to love and lead is through service.

He called on his followers to “go and do likewise.” In other words, it is not enough simply to have faith; we must act on that faith. In fact, James says that faith without corresponding action is dead.

Anyone who chooses to live a life for God will sometimes be disappointed or discouraged. Children disappoint their parents, friends let them down and co-workers can frustrate them. Despite the challenges, strong families find ways to overcome these obstacles and continue to serve one another.

As an international nonprofit, we’re dedicated to spreading the power of grassroots faith-based community organizing. We want to create a world where all people have access to the resources they need to thrive: clean water, good schools, quality healthcare and decent jobs with livable wages. To do this, we need to start at the local level by helping communities organize themselves to address their most pressing needs.
Organizing for Social Change

Throughout history, people most impacted by injustice lead the way in changing the system that marginalizes them. They organize for better schools for their children, access to health care and affordable housing, lower crime rates in their neighborhoods and less incarceration. They build a stronger voice for their needs in the halls of power by creating community organizations that are rooted in faith and driven by love.

Faith in Action has a long tradition of developing grassroots leaders that can exercise the power needed to make real change happen for all. This work flows out of America’s great tradition of organizing that began with our country’s fight for independence. Faith in Action provides training and resources that help communities organize and build a powerful voice to address issues they face.

We do this by empowering individuals through a process that builds leadership, develops a powerful base of support and organizes for specific, targeted policy changes. Our approach is grounded in Jesus’ model of humility and servanthood. Jesus washed feet, healed the sick and spent time with those that society deemed “wretched” and even “lost.” He is our example of how to serve others and show true humility in every way we can.

One of the most important tools we offer to our partners is our ability to train them in grassroots organizing techniques. This is done by a combination of workshops and mentoring relationships. We provide training around topics such as recruitment, tactics, public speaking and using the media to achieve social change. We also train in the spiritual aspects of organizing including building a strong base of support and building a moral economy that gives all people dignity and opportunity.

This training is available for church leaders and community members. It is especially helpful to groups that are struggling to find the right mix of policies and programs that will benefit their members.

Providing the right level of support to older adults is critical to maintaining independence. For example, escorted transportation service is available for older adults who cannot drive and need assistance getting to their doctor appointments or other errands. This can be life-changing for them and their families.
Bringing Hope to the World

The world can seem like a hopeless place at times. With global pandemics, natural disasters and social unrest dominating the news headlines it’s easy to lose sight of our faith and forget that the Lord is in control. But our faith in Jesus Christ can give us strength and hope to face any challenge that comes our way.

Service is a central part of the Christian faith. It is woven throughout Scripture, from the Great Commission to the commandment to love God and our neighbor as ourselves. In fact, many people think of service as a Christian way of life. It’s why it’s no surprise that religiously-affiliated groups are more likely to serve their neighbors than those who are not.

At Faith in Action we are committed to helping our brothers and sisters around the globe build community and bring hope to a world that needs it. We do this by supporting local leaders through a network of organizations and trainings. We also work with people who are directly impacted by injustice to organize campaigns to improve the quality of schools their children attend, obtain access to healthcare and affordable housing, reduce violence and incarceration in their communities and create more jobs with better wages.

We believe that if people of all faiths are equipped to organize, they will have the power to transform their communities. We have helped to cultivate grassroots leaders across the United States and have responded to requests for support in over a dozen countries internationally. Faith in Action International is our response to those calls, providing ongoing consultation and technical assistance to faith and community leaders worldwide.

We believe that all people are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and love. In order to achieve this, a moral economy is needed that is developed with a racial equity lens. This is why LA RED (Los Angeles Regional Economic Development Council), a partner of Faith in Action, was founded. We are committed to giving people of all faiths the tools they need to fight for justice and build a more equitable society.
